Just wanted to warn you. This limit is really tight :/
I missed hell a lot of faction on our team-arena 68 wins in a row run
I just wasted all my faction for some upgrades and runes I don't really need...

if all that you could buy with your faction was upgrades and runes you really didnt need, why do you care about faction at all?

Please read my post again. I wrote that I was saving faction for when I'm in need. For example if my guild needs a ranger I can quickly unlock the most important things. But currently I play PvP with my PvE chars, so currently I don't need all the stuff, because I'm going to unlock many things through PvE.
I always looked a faction that way: possibility to quickly unlock the things you need _now_. I currently have no clue if I ever going to play a hammer warrior in PvP. So unlocking Hammer-stuff can be wasted faction and when my guild needs me tomorrow as a mesmer I'm in trouble, because I haven't unlocked enough yet.
All I wanted to say was: watch out, there is a limit on faction points. So don't save up all for later use - use them now.
I'm not complaining or anything else, just wanted to drop you a note about it.
You don't get an ingame warning when you reach maximum faction. All it says is, that in balthazaars eyes you reached perfection. There will be normal 'you gained x faction' messages. So it is very easy to not notice it.

If your guild needs a mesmer and you haven't played it enough to unlock the right skills......well, I wouldn't want your mesmer on my side.
Ever look up the term 'hoarding'?

Oh that's nice to know. I've currently got 7,000 saved up (have earned a total of 10,006)
I'll be a little less stingy with spending my points now .

So it caps at 10,000, but after you spend them you can start getting more? Or is 10,000 it. No more. ?

Yes, you can get more. But you can only have max 10,000 at a time.

Why not practise it right now. Let's say we got an idea for a nice build but a mesmer is missing, so I'll step in and say: let me try it. And I try. What if I suck at playing a mesmer? Doesn't matter - for us only the fun counts
Or imagine that I wanted to play a memser. I need to practice - but first I need skills and runes. So I need faction points to unlock the interesting skills.
But let me emphasize: I don't complain, I just wanted you all to know about this limit. Because it was very bad for me - I missed 1500 faction or so, because I didn't realized it. I don't complain about me loosing that faction - I just want you to be aware.
Of course I wanted to hoard the faction, but I explained the reason for it. And it won't harm anyone when I hoard my faction

I don't see a reason why there should be a cap.

err? you don't need a cap when programming if you use the corect variable type...
also myself i don't see a reason why there should be a cap for faction.
EDIT : before you go over it again, there is a cap for variable type in programmation but some are so high that i doubt someone could farm enought faction to bust the limit.

I'm very dissapointed that faction only buys you items for pvp characters.. sure the game is revolved around pvp but then again they only let pve characters get the really good items.. so whats the point of playing a pvp only character when you force us to play a pve character to get the really good stuff? I say let us buy items and such with faction atleaste.

No. That way is good.
You can buy items for your PvE char, you can get the collector stuff and you can buy all runes you need. There is no need to unlock anything for a PvE only char.

The only difference between the 'really good PvP stuff' and the stuff you get for a PvP character is APPEARANCE. The stats are exactly the same.

Ok I'm a bit confused. while it may seem annoying there is a limit, its tere so you spend you points on skills and items for characters. Even if you don't use skills from some classes.
This is the reason the points were added in, to allow PvP people to unlock items for PvP. Not to collect loads. Think a.net are trying to avoid people lording over others by having more experince with their socalled Faction points.
Just the way I look at it.

I think the problem may be more about hoarding a billion faction, then blowing it all the day after the expansion comes out.

I would think that you wouldn't have need to horde 10k faction. Spend it on unlocking all the elite skills for your pvp guys. Otherwise you can just take your pve characters through the game and get the normal skills the old fashioned way.

From the sounds of it, you got your faction fairly easily. So in essence it shouldn't be too difficult for you to regain what you need to unlock the skills you may need at the time. I, on the other hand, have only 10 faction.

Can you unlock elites through faction? I've never seen any elites offered when I visit the priest of balthazar...

You can unlock elites by visiting the priests in Droknar's Forge.
